Impressive doubles major debut for Irina Maria Bara

The World No. 1 Simona Halep ended her quest for a maiden Grand Slam title in style, but she was not the only Romanian tennis player who shined in Paris this year.

Irina Maria Bara made her Roland Garros debut this year and it was an amazing experience for her. In singles, Bara lost to American Caroline Dolehide in the final round of qualifying. Despite the loss she achieved her best result ever at a Grand Slam.

In doubles, the unseeded Romanian pair of Irina Maria Bara and Mihaela Buzarnescu made her major main draw debut, and powered to quarterfinal.

Michaela Honcova won first title of season in Porto

Slovakia’s Michaela Honcova survived epic final match to win the women’s 15.000 USD circuit crown at the Clube de Ténis do Porto in Portugal on Sunday.

With both finalists looking for first title of the year, Honcova defeated Frenchwoman Sara Cakarevic 57 61 75 in 2 hours and 11 minutes to collect the 5th ITF Pro Circuit singles title of her career.

The first set saw some intense battles on court, before Cakarevic took the initative. Honcova reeled off six of seven games to secure the second set in a little over 30 minutes.

Chantal Skamlova edges Kolodziejova to capture the biggest singles title of her career

The final week of June 2017 saw Chantal Skamlova competing in tournament at KS Start-Wisla Torun Club in Torun, Poland with the prize money 25.000 USD+H.

Played out on clay courts, Skamlova took part only in singles event. The former Junior Fed Cup player for Slovakia experienced little trouble navigation her way through the first three matches (Pantuckova 6-1, 6-1, Kapshay 6-3, 7-5 and Chwalinska 6-4, 6-1), dropping just 15 games, before coming up against Priscilla Hon in the semifinals.

Australian youngster Hon took the first set 6-4 but Skamlova came back strong to take next two sets 6-1, 6-3.
